Judge Blocks Parts Of Arizona Immigration Law

Well this is unfortunate. I was hoping my former home state of Arizona would have a clear shot at upholding this law, but that is not the case. This judge upholds "parts" but blocks all the main parts of the law which makes no sense to me. Either you block it, or you don't. Hopefully this will go to the Supreme Court where the FULL law will be upheld.

Yahoo!/AP: A federal judge on Wednesday blocked the most controversial parts of Arizona's immigration law from taking effect, delivering a last-minute victory to opponents of the crackdown.

The overall law will still take effect Thursday, but without the provisions that angered opponents — including sections that required officers to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws.

The judge also put on hold parts of the law that required immigrants to carry their papers at all times, and made it illegal for undocumented workers to solicit employment in public places. In addition, the judge blocked officers from making warrantless arrests of suspected illegal immigrants.

"Requiring Arizona law enforcement officials and agencies to determine the immigration status of every person who is arrested burdens lawfully-present aliens because their liberty will be restricted while their status is checked," U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton ruled.

She ruled that the controversial sections should be put on hold until the courts resolve the issues. Other provisions of the law, many of them procedural and slight revisions to existing Arizona immigration statute, will go into effect at 12:01 a.m.

The ruling came just as police were making last-minute preparations to begin enforcement of the law and protesters were planning large demonstrations to speak out against the measure. At least one group planned to block access to federal offices, daring officers to ask them about their immigration status.

The volume of the protests will likely be turned down a few notches because of the ruling by Bolton, a Clinton appointee who suddenly became a crucial figure in the immigration debate when she was assigned the seven lawsuits filed against the Arizona law.

Lawyers for the state contend the law was a constitutionally sound attempt by Arizona — the busiest illegal gateway into the country — to assist federal immigration agents and lessen border woes such as the heavy costs for educating, jailing and providing health care for illegal immigrants.

Opponents argued the law will lead to racial profiling, conflict with federal immigration law and distract local police from fighting more serious crimes. The U.S. Justice Department, civil rights groups and a Phoenix police officer had asked the judge for an injunction to prevent the law from being enforced.

"There is a substantial likelihood that officers will wrongfully arrest legal resident aliens under the new (law)," Bolton ruled. "By enforcing this statute, Arizona would impose a 'distinct, unusual and extraordinary' burden on legal resident aliens that only the federal government has the authority to impose."

The law was signed by Republican Gov. Jan Brewer in April and immediately revived the national debate on immigration, making it a hot-button issue in the midterm elections.

The law has inspired rallies in Arizona and elsewhere by advocates on both sides of the immigration debate. Some opponents have advocated a tourism boycott of Arizona.

It also led an unknown number of illegal immigrants to leave Arizona for other American states or their home countries.

Federal authorities who are trying to overturn the law have argued that letting the Arizona law stand would create a patchwork of immigration laws nationwide that would needlessly complicate the foreign relations of the United States. Federal lawyers said the law is disrupting U.S. relations with Mexico and other countries and would burden the agency that responds to immigration-status inquiries.

Brewer's lawyers said Arizona shouldn't have to suffer from America's broken immigration system when it has 15,000 police officers who can arrest illegal immigrants.

Political Jokes

Erin Andrews sued the man who secretly videotaped her with a peephole camera while she was nude in hotel rooms. It extended her career and made her more popular than ever. Barack Obama just invited the Peeping Tom to tape him through the Oval Office windows.

BP capped the gushing well in the Gulf of Mexico Thursday. It was a victory of business and government. The oil company was able to go a mile underwater and shut off the well and the president was able to shave three strokes off his golf score.

Washington D.C. government workers and lobbyists and journalists were polled about their outlooks on America Monday. The polls shows the D.C. elite think the president's doing a great job, the economy's improving and the president will be re-elected. Most people can't get this high without a celebrity doctor and a prescription for Propofol.

The White House made plans Monday to send the National Guard to Arizona's border next month. The troops will have desk jobs. Now they just have to figure out how to get two hundred thousand illegal aliens a year to stop at the desk on their way in.

Hillary Clinton awarded Pakistan a huge U.S. aid grant at a Central Asian summit in Kabul Monday. We want nothing in return. The U.S. gave up trying to extract Osama bin Laden from Pakistan after we couldn't even extract Roman Polanski from Switzerland.

Washington D.C. was shaken by a minor earthquake Friday which rattled government buildings for thirty seconds. Seismologists say they had no idea there's a fissure in the earth running beneath the capital. Democrats immediately named it Bush's Fault.

The White House decided Sunday to defend the new health care law's insurance mandate as a tax. It forces you to buy an insurance policy from a private company, and it's enforced by the IRS. If Paul Revere rode tonight he'd be warning the townspeple of Lexington and Concord that the British health care system is coming.

The National Enquirer reported Monday that two more massage therapists accused Al Gore of sexually assaulting them when they came to his hotel room. He says their stories are not true. All he did was take off his towel to show them his weather vane.

Glenn Beck said Tuesday he's been diagnosed with macular dystrophy which could eventually blind him. This is very bad news for Democrats. The only thing that scares liberals more than Glenn Beck is Glenn Beck with a German shepherd at his side.

Great Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron was a hit speaking to White House tourists Tuesday. He said he loves America and everything it's done for the world. So there are some differences he has with President Obama which can never be bridged.

The White House forced a black Agriculture Department employee to resign Tuesday over racism charges although she was clearly innocent. It's another historic first for President Obama. He could be the first Democratic president to lose England, Israel and the black vote.

President Obama thanked the Senate for extending unemployment benefits to jobless Americans. He was sincere. He's grateful that members of his administration won't have to go on food stamps between the time they're fired and the time they're rehired.

The Statue of Liberty in New York was evacuated Wednesday when an alarm went off falsely indicating the presence of smoke. It was misinterpreted. The alarm in the Statue of Liberty goes off whenever President Obama signs a law taking over something.

BP neared completion of its Gulf of Mexico relief well Thursday. The low point was in June when waterfowl were shown on the beaches covered with oil. President Obama saw part of the videotape and told the Agriculture Secretary to fire the birds.

President Obama was criticized by gulf businessmen for choosing to vacation in Maine last weekend instead of at the gulf beaches as Michelle urged everyone. It's easy to see why. President Obama sees himself as a great man and great men integrate Maine.

President Obama To Skip The Boy Scouts Centennial - Instead Appear On "The View"

Via The Left Coast Rebel:

I'm not quite sure why anything this administration does can still surprise or disgust me, but they've managed to do it again!

Obama Will Skip Boy Scout 100 Year Anniversary Jamboree – Will Appear on “The View” That Day Instead

The last three presidents (that includes Bill Clinton, for those of you keeping score at home!) have appeared in person at the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree. The Boy Scouts are a venerable part of this nation's history. They have helped to build the character of Presidents such as John F. Kennedy. Presidents have been former Scout leaders and members, and the contributions of this organization to the United States are many and the Scouts can be proud.

So where will Barack Obama be when the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts takes place? In a TV studio on a talk show for women. Really.

President Barack Obama, the honorary chairman of the Boy Scouts of America, will not speak in-person before the group on Wednesday at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia, as part of the organization's 100th anniversary celebration. However, the president is sending a videotaped message to the scouts for Wednesday, the same day he will be in Manhattan to tape an appearance for ABC TV’s talk show “The View.”

Bob Dries, chairman of national news and media at the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree – a gathering that happens every four years and attracts thousands of scouts from around the world – told CNSNews.com that the organization was told on Monday that the president had scheduling conflicts and would not be speaking in-person at the week-long event.

Scheduling conflicts. With a show he is taping to be shown the next day. Funny! He found time to tape some comments to the BSA. Why couldn't he have rescheduled his taping of the gab fest on The View, and make the personal appearance? Guess we know where his priorities lie!

It reminds me just a little of when Obama blew off his attendance at the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball, where he blew off 48 Medal of Honor recipients so that he could hang out with Hollywood stars. Even Bill Clinton who is said to have "loathed the military" find time to put in an appearance at the Salute to Heroes Ball at his inauguration. Clinton had just as many balls to attend as Obama. How sad a commentary is it when you fall behind Bill Clinton in respecting the military? Or the Boy Scouts?

Howard Dean Says Fox News Is Racist For Pointing Out Or Reporting On Racism

What an idiot. Howard Dean accuses Fox News of being racist for reporting on what some call “reverse racism.” Are you blind? It's still amazing to me how the Left is still not acknowledging that the voter intimidation and ACORN stuff is/was going on. They still call it fake. Like I have said before, the Democrats NEED race in order to stir things up and get votes.

As People Struggle, The Obamas Are Renting 30 Rooms Out In Spain

So the President tells everyone the economy isn't getting better and that we all need to tighten our belts, yet his family (probably on OUR dime) is going on yet another vacation and basically renting a hotel just for his family only. Nice.

Earth Times: Mother and daughter would come to the southern holiday resort of Marbella on a “private visit in the company of old friends,” the source told the German Press Agency dpa.

US President Barack Obama will not accompany his wife, the source said.

Spanish media reports said Michelle Obama and her younger daughter Sasha, 9, would be on Spain’s Costa del Sol between August 4 and 8.

There had been speculation that Barack Obama might also come to Spain to celebrate his 49th birthday on August 4.

Michelle Obama has reserved about 30 rooms for herself and her daughter, their friends and bodyguards at a five-star hotel in Benahavis near Marbella, hotel sources said.

Lindsay Lohan Postcards

I still can't believe this girl is will only be spending maybe 2 weeks in jail for a 90 day sentence that you and I would had been spending a couple of years in jail for what she did. But anyways, I found this site that has postcards you can send to Lindsay. Give it a try!

Via Gawker: Want to tell Inmate No. 2409752 (aka Lindsay Lohan) how much you miss her? Can't find her prison address or something to write your thoughts on? Fret not. We've done all the hard work. Just print, stamp, and send!

That's right, folks, you can print out this very handy Lindsay Lohan Prison Postcard and it already has her address right on it. Just print (preferably on some card stock), cut around the edges, and you're all set. Sure, you may have already tweeted your feelings, but she can't get those in the clink, so you're going to have to write them down on paper. Tell Lindsay you're rooting for her! Tell her to stay tough! Tell her you can't wait to see her full-frontal nudity in her next movie! Then all you have to is affix a $.28 stamp and you're good to go.

Note: When you print out the postcard, it will be blank on the front. Consider drawing Lindsay a picture to make it more festive. Maybe something about freedom? Maybe a unicorn with a rainbow—Lindsay's favorite? Maybe a drawing of your favorite scene from I Know Who Killed Me? Let your imagination run wild.

Of course, the best part of all this is it's free! Don't even try to pay us for this invaluable service. The love you're going to send Lindsay is more than enough.

A Random Site I Found. Check It Out

I was surfing the web trying to find stuff to add that is not politically affiliated like I normally do to mix things up on here, and I found this site called "Unreality Magazine". This link is pretty funny because it has the top 10 screaming scenes in movies that doesn't include Al Pacino in it.

Check it out here

Also this one was on the same site and it has to deal with the top 10 scenes in sports movies that get you jacked up. I noticed that it left out one of my favorite sports movies and scenes, Varsity Blues. That is great movie. I can't believe they left that one out. But anyways, here is the link to that one here.

View Is Bleaker Than Official Portrayal Of War In Afghanistan

Well this isn't good news.

NY Times: A six-year archive of classified military documents made public on Sunday offers an unvarnished, ground-level picture of the war in Afghanistan that is in many respects more grim than the official portrayal.

The secret documents, released on the Internet by an organization called WikiLeaks, are a daily diary of an American-led force often starved for resources and attention as it struggled against an insurgency that grew larger, better coordinated and more deadly each year.

The New York Times, the British newspaper The Guardian and the German magazine Der Spiegel were given access to the voluminous records several weeks ago on the condition that they not report on the material before Sunday.

The documents — some 92,000 reports spanning parts of two administrations from January 2004 through December 2009 — illustrate in mosaic detail why, after the United States has spent almost $300 billion on the war in Afghanistan, the Taliban are stronger than at any time since 2001.

DOJ: Prosecutor Firing Was Politics, Not Crime

So once again, the DOJ is making accusations and again not prosecuting because it would political or politically incorrect and not based on a crime. That makes no sense. All of this is based on voter fraud that was brought up during the Bush years. Obama and the DOJ made the final decision coming today is, firing an attorney for being soft on voter fraud is politically incorrect, but not criminal. It backs up the testimony of a former DOJ attorney in the Obama regime, who has testified the current DOJ says they will not investigate voter intimidation or fraud because doing so will not increase voters!

Via Breitbart: The Bush administration's Justice Department's actions were inappropriately political, but not criminal, when it fired a U.S. attorney in 2006, prosecutors said Wednesday in closing a two-year investigation without filing charges.

The decision closes the books on one of the lingering political disputes of the Bush administration, one that Democrats said was evidence of GOP politics run amok and that Republicans have always said was a manufactured controversy.

Investigators looked into whether the Bush administration improperly dismissed nine U.S. attorneys, and in particular New Mexico U.S. Attorney David Iglesias, as a way to influence criminal cases. The scandal added to mounting criticism that the administration had politicized the Justice Department, a charge that contributed to the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

In 2008, the Justice Department assigned Nora Dannehy, a career prosecutor from Connecticut with a history of rooting out government wrongdoing, to investigate the firings.

"Evidence did not demonstrate that any prosecutable criminal offense was committed with regard to the removal of David Iglesias," the Justice Department said in a letter to lawmakers Wednesday. "The investigative team also determined that the evidence did not warrant expanding the scope of the investigation beyond the removal of Iglesias."

Prosecutors also said there was insufficient evidence to charge someone with lying to Congress or investigators.

Iglesias was fired after the head of New Mexico's Republican Party complained to the White House that Iglesias was soft on voter fraud. He asked that Iglesias be replaced so that the state could "make some real progress in cleaning up a state notorious for crooked elections."

Harriet Miers, then White House counsel, told lawmakers that presidential political adviser Karl Rove was "very agitated" over Iglesias "and wanted something done about it." Rove has said he played no role in deciding which U.S. attorneys were fired, that the firings weren't politically motivated and that he never sought to influence prosecutions.

Dannehy faulted the Justice Department for firing Iglesias without even bothering to figure out whether complaints about him were true. That indicated "an undue sensitivity to politics on the part of DOJ officials who should answer not to partisan politics but to principles of fairness and justice," the Justice Department wrote in its letter.

But that was not a crime, and was not an effort to influence prosecutions, the letter said.

Gonzales' lawyer, George Terwilliger, called the conclusion long overdue.

"Those who made unwarranted allegations to the contrary owe him an apology," Terwilliger said. "After having spent months cooperating with inquiries that produced no evidence of his wrongdoing, Judge Gonzales is pleased to be free to resume a career marked to date by service to the public."

Former Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., also became a focus of the investigation because he made three phone calls to the attorney general and one to Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty complaining about Iglesias. McNulty didn't mention Domenici's phone calls when questioned by Congress, leading to accusations over a coverup.

Dannehy concluded that Domenici's push to have Iglesias fired was in part politically motivated but did not violate the law.

Iglesias also said Domenici called him and pressured him to bring charges in a public corruption case before Election Day 2006. The Senate Ethics Committee said Domenici created an appearance of impropriety with that phone call, and he apologized.

Dannehy said there was not enough evidence to show that phone call was either an attempt to pressure Iglesias to accelerate the case or a threat that if he didn't, he'd lose his job.

"The Justice Department has now confirmed what I have always said and believed: I never attempted to interfere with any government investigation," Domenici said. "I am glad that this matter has concluded."

The nine prosecutors who were fired were: Daniel Bogden of Nevada, Paul Charlton of Arizona, Margaret Chiara of Michigan, Bud Cummins of Arkansas, Todd Graves of Missouri, Carol Lam of California, John McKay of Washington, Kevin Ryan of California, and Iglesias.

Shirley Sherrod Claims Breitbart Is “After A Black President”

Awesome piece by Maggie via The Lonely Conservative. This whole story is off the chain and I know I said I wouldn't comment on this one anymore, but after reading it, I had to share it. It's amazing how the Left needs this to keep going and to try and make everyday citizens and especially people on the Right and Tea Party look like idiots or in this continuing case, Racists. I visit Breitbart's sites from time to time and he has very good stories and videos and I have not seen anything in memory that makes him look this way. As always, make up your own opinion, but read this stuff.

Shirley Sherrod shows us how racism will be kept alive and well. Yesterday she said Andrew Breitbart was a “racist,” I doubt she can produce one single fact to show racism from Breitbart. Rather than come up with a “fact,” she challenges Breitbart to show her how he is NOT racist. The burden is not on her to prove he is racist, because she is a Liberal. As with every Liberal viewpoint, they accuse and we have to prove. I am at Breitbart’s website regularly and I have seen no signs of racism. Sherrod needs to prove her accusation, and shame on Anderson Cooper for not making her do so in the video interview below.

After releasing the snippets of the Shirley Sherrod video when she spoke to the NAACP in March 2010, Breitbart’s goal was to show the racism in the NAACP – the audience laughed that she did not do all that she could for a White man who came to her – a government paid worker – to save his farm. Breitbart’s intention to show racism in the NAACP was due to their charges of racism against Tea Parties.

I would like to hear how what she said about the White farmer is not racist. Yes, he and his wife came forward later, and said Sherrod was helpful and they had remained friends, but she did not tell the NAACP that. She obviously thought her audience would champion her for getting Whitey.

Had a White person from the Department of Agriculture said the same things, they would not only be fired, they would likely lose their retirement benefits. And had Sherrod been White, and the farmer been Black, once the Black farmer came forward, he would be tainted forever by his “own kind,” as Sherrod would say, for supporting a White man.

The one thing Sherrod said that shows her clear racist agenda is the dishonest claim that Republicans do not want ObamaCare because Obama is Black. We hate the unconstitutional legislation, and there are hundreds of thousands of pages explaining why we hate it and oppose it. Sherrod obviously knows naught about the Constitution. None of it has anything to do with a Black president. It has everything to do with a Marxist president.

Here’s the video of Sherrod saying Breitbart is “after a Black president.” If her claim was accurate, it would be “a large part of the U.S. is after an incompetent, Constitutional-destroying president.” Accusation after accusation that Breibart is racist – without a single attempt to prove what she is saying…just slamming Breitbart and running on to the next baseless accusation. Visit Breitbart and show me how he is racist.

22 Signs The Middle Class Is Disappearing

Yahoo! Finance: The 22 statistics detailed here prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the middle class is being systematically wiped out of existence in America.

The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer at a staggering rate. Once upon a time, the United States had the largest and most prosperous middle class in the history of the world, but now that is changing at a blinding pace.

So why are we witnessing such fundamental changes? Well, the globalism and "free trade" that our politicians and business leaders insisted would be so good for us have had some rather nasty side effects. It turns out that they didn't tell us that the "global economy" would mean that middle class American workers would eventually have to directly compete for jobs with people on the other side of the world where there is no minimum wage and very few regulations. The big global corporations have greatly benefited by exploiting third world labor pools over the last several decades, but middle class American workers have increasingly found things to be very tough.

Here are the statistics to prove it:

• 83 percent of all U.S. stocks are in the hands of 1 percent of the people.
• 61 percent of Americans "always or usually" live paycheck to paycheck, which was up from 49 percent in 2008 and 43 percent in 2007.
• 66 percent of the income growth between 2001 and 2007 went to the top 1% of all Americans.
• 36 percent of Americans say that they don't contribute anything to retirement savings.
• A staggering 43 percent of Americans have less than $10,000 saved up for retirement.
• 24 percent of American workers say that they have postponed their planned retirement age in the past year.
• Over 1.4 million Americans filed for personal bankruptcy in 2009, which represented a 32 percent increase over 2008.
• Only the top 5 percent of U.S. households have earned enough additional income to match the rise in housing costs since 1975.
• For the first time in U.S. history, banks own a greater share of residential housing net worth in the United States than all individual Americans put together.
• In 1950, the ratio of the average executive's paycheck to the average worker's paycheck was about 30 to 1. Since the year 2000, that ratio has exploded to between 300 to 500 to one.
• As of 2007, the bottom 80 percent of American households held about 7% of the liquid financial assets.
• The bottom 50 percent of income earners in the United States now collectively own less than 1 percent of the nation’s wealth.
• Average Wall Street bonuses for 2009 were up 17 percent when compared with 2008.
• In the United States, the average federal worker now earns 60% MORE than the average worker in the private sector.
• The top 1 percent of U.S. households own nearly twice as much of America's corporate wealth as they did just 15 years ago.
• In America today, the average time needed to find a job has risen to a record 35.2 weeks.
• More than 40 percent of Americans who actually are employed are now working in service jobs, which are often very low paying.
• or the first time in U.S. history, more than 40 million Americans are on food stamps, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture projects that number will go up to 43 million Americans in 2011.
• This is what American workers now must compete against: in China a garment worker makes approximately 86 cents an hour and in Cambodia a garment worker makes approximately 22 cents an hour.
• Approximately 21 percent of all children in the United States are living below the poverty line in 2010 - the highest rate in 20 years.
• Despite the financial crisis, the number of millionaires in the United States rose a whopping 16 percent to 7.8 million in 2009.
• The top 10 percent of Americans now earn around 50 percent of our national income.

Giant Sucking Sound

The reality is that no matter how smart, how strong, how educated or how hard working American workers are, they just cannot compete with people who are desperate to put in 10 to 12 hour days at less than a dollar an hour on the other side of the world. After all, what corporation in their right mind is going to pay an American worker 10 times more (plus benefits) to do the same job? The world is fundamentally changing. Wealth and power are rapidly becoming concentrated at the top and the big global corporations are making massive amounts of money. Meanwhile, the American middle class is being systematically wiped out of existence as U.S. workers are slowly being merged into the new "global" labor pool.

What do most Americans have to offer in the marketplace other than their labor? Not much. The truth is that most Americans are absolutely dependent on someone else giving them a job. But today, U.S. workers are "less attractive" than ever. Compared to the rest of the world, American workers are extremely expensive, and the government keeps passing more rules and regulations seemingly on a monthly basis that makes it even more difficult to conduct business in the United States.

So corporations are moving operations out of the U.S. at breathtaking speed. Since the U.S. government does not penalize them for doing so, there really is no incentive for them to stay.

What has developed is a situation where the people at the top are doing quite well, while most Americans are finding it increasingly difficult to make it. There are now about six unemployed Americans for every new job opening in the United States, and the number of "chronically unemployed" is absolutely soaring. There simply are not nearly enough jobs for everyone.

Many of those who are able to get jobs are finding that they are making less money than they used to. In fact, an increasingly large percentage of Americans are working at low wage retail and service jobs.

But you can't raise a family on what you make flipping burgers at McDonald's or on what you bring in from greeting customers down at the local Wal-Mart.

The truth is that the middle class in America is dying -- and once it is gone it will be incredibly difficult to rebuild.

Sen. John Kerry Docks His Yacht In Rhode Island To Avoid Taxes On It From His Home State Of Massachusetts

Liberalism at it's best. Always remember that members of Congress love to spend everyone else's money and preaches people on paying taxes or raising taxes and such, but when it comes to them, they will use every loophole they can find not to pay taxes. Such in this case of John Kerry, who is a Senator from Massachusetts, docks his sailboat in Rhode Island so he can avoid a six figure tax on his new yacht.

h/t Daily Caller, via Boston Herald: Sen. John Kerry, who has repeatedly voted to raise taxes while in Congress, dodged a whopping six-figure state tax bill on his new multimillion-dollar yacht by mooring her in Newport, R.I.

Isabel - Kerry’s luxe, 76-foot New Zealand-built Friendship sloop with an Edwardian-style, glossy varnished teak interior, two VIP main cabins and a pilothouse fitted with a wet bar and cold wine storage - was designed by Rhode Island boat designer Ted Fontaine.

But instead of berthing the vessel in Nantucket, where the senator summers with the missus, Teresa Heinz, Isabel’s hailing port is listed as “Newport” on her stern.

Could the reason be that the Ocean State repealed its Boat Sales and Use Tax back in 1993, making the tiny state to the south a haven - like the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Nassau - for tax-skirting luxury yacht owners?

Cash-strapped Massachusetts still collects a 6.25 percent sales tax and an annual excise tax on yachts. Sources say Isabel sold for something in the neighborhood of $7 million, meaning Kerry saved approximately $437,500 in sales tax and an annual excise tax of about $70,000.

The senior senator’s chief of staff David Wade denied the old salt was berthing his boat out of state to avoid ponying up to the commonwealth.

“The boat was designed by and purchased from a company in Rhode Island, and it’s based in Newport at the Newport Shipyard for long-term maintenance, upkeep and charter purposes, not tax reasons,” Wade told the Track.

And state Department of Revenue spokesguy Bob Bliss confirmed the senator “is under no obligation to pay the commonwealth sales tax.”

But back in 2006, then-gubernatorial candidate Christy Mihos took some flack for avoiding some $23,000 in Bay State sales tax and $1,320 in local excise taxes by berthing his motor yacht in Rhode Island. But Mihos paid just $475,000 for his 36-foot vessel Ashley and readily admitted that he used the boat at his West Yarmouth summer home.

However, according to Bliss, if Kerry berths the Isabel in Massachusetts waters within six months of purchasing the boat, there’s a “presumption of use” and the Heinz-Kerrys would have to walk the plank and pony up to the Bay State. After six months, should the boat change its berth to, say, Nantucket, then it’s up to the state to go after them for the taxes, Bliss added.

Yesterday, the Isabel, which lists Great Point LLC of Pittsburgh, Penn., as its owner, was getting a spruce-up at the Hinckley shipyard in Portsmouth, R.I. Sources say the senior senator is demanding that some warranty work be done.

Fontaine, a protege of legendary sailboat designer Ted Hood, was tight-lipped about the owners of Isabel but he did confirm the boat was built in New Zealand. According to Internet reports, Kerry was seen in Whangarei last December inspecting his new high-seas plaything.

Charles Rangel Sees The Fall Of NBC In Questions From Luke Russert

This interview just goes to show the arrogance of Charles Rangel and how the liberal media is in bed with the government. Especially the answer from Mr. Rangel of "It doesn't really sound like NBC asking these dumb questions".

Via The Observer: "What are you talkin about? You just trying to make copy?" Charles Rangel shot back at Luke Russert after he asked if Mr. Rangel was woried about losing his job. "Well you're young," Mr. Rangel continued. "I guess you need to make a name for yourself" — that part is already taken care of— "but basically you know it's a dumb question, and I'm not going to answer it."

"It doesn't really sound like NBC asking these dumb questions," the congressman continued. "It shows what has really happened to a channel that did have some respect."

Flashback Fridays! - The Bruce Springsteen Edition

My buddy Dave thought of this one about 2 weeks ago and I put it off until today. I enjoy Springsteen's music and this was a great choice. I especially love "Glory Days" since it kind of reminds me of my younger days. If you have an idea, please submit one. Thanks!

Why Clinton Cares So Much About An Asian Island Chain

Via The Atlantic Wire: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is getting the U.S. involved in a complex, international dispute over a chain of islands in the South China Sea. China and nearby Asian states have long made competing claims as to who controls the strategically located islands. Speaking at a meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation in Hanoi, Vietnam, Clinton said that the U.S. has a "national interest" in resolving the issue peacefully. Here's what's going on, why it matters, and what could happen next, according to key journalists and experts.

It's a pretty interesting article and goes in debt on some major talking points.

White House Predicts Record $1.47 Trillion Deficit

Sweet. Further and further into debt. Thanks Mr. President. And it's expected to rise for 2011-12 too. Oh wait, the deficit for 2009 and now this new record deficit for 2010 was "inherited" from former President Bush. Nevermind.

Yahoo!/AP: New estimates from the White House on Friday predict the budget deficit will reach a record $1.47 trillion this year. The government is borrowing 41 cents of every dollar it spends.

That's actually a little better than the administration predicted in February.

The new estimates paint a grim unemployment picture as the economy experiences a relatively jobless recovery. The unemployment rate, presently averaging 9.5 percent, would average 9 percent next year under the new estimates.

The Office of Management and Budget report has ominous news for President Barack Obama should he seek re-election in 2012 — a still-high unemployment rate of 8.1 percent. That would be well above normal, which is closer to a rate of 5.5 percent to 6 percent. Private economists don't think the unemployment rate will drop to those levels until well into this decade.

"The U.S. economy still faces strong headwinds," the OMB report said. They include tight credit markets, a high inventory of unsold housing and retrenchment by state governments bound by balanced budget mandates. The European debt crisis has also had an impact.

"Despite these headwinds, the administration expects economic growth and job creation to continue for the rest of 2010 and to rise in 2011 and beyond," the report said.

The gaping deficits are of increasing concern to voters. But Obama and Democrats controlling Congress are mostly taking a pass on deficit reduction this year as they await possible recommendations from Obama's deficit commission.

While there's a slight improvement in the deficit for the current year compared to the administration's February forecast, next year's predicted $1.42 trillion worth , next year's predicted $1.42 trillion worth of red ink — that's 37 cents of borrowing for every dollar spent — is looking worse. It's about $150 billion more than previously predicted, because of still-slumping tax revenues.

The current record holder is the $1.41 trillion deficit for 2009.

Economists agree that the most important measure of the deficit is against the size of the economy. Opinions vary, but many economists say a deficit of 3 percent of gross domestic product is sustainable since it would stabilize the overall debt when measured relative to the economy.

The report put the deficit at 10 percent of GDP this year and 9.2 percent of GDP next year. It would never reach the 3 percent figure under Obama's predictions — which underestimate war costs and depend on assumptions of tax hikes that may not materialize.

OMB Director Peter Orszag said the numbers represent a "fiscal situation that requires attention."

Obama "has done little to confront this domestic enemy," said Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind. "Washington desperately needs real leadership. We cannot continue to postpone the hard choices and sacrifices that are necessary to stop this fiscal train wreck."

Deficits have skyrocketed since the recession took hold in 2008 and Congress responded with a massive bailout of the financial system and last year's $862 billion stimulus measure.

"What we should be doing now is putting in place deficit reduction policies that will kick in after the economy has more fully recovered," said Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad of North Dakota. "It is an unsustainable long-term course."

Disturbing Unemployment Graph

Via The Atlantic

The median duration of unemployment is higher today than any time in the last 50 years. That's an understatement. It is more than twice as high today than any time in the last 50 years.

Rangel Charged With Ethics Violations

About time. This guy thinks he is so above the law. If this was a Republican, he would had been charged or forced to resign months ago.

Fox News: A House investigative panel on Thursday announced multiple ethics charges against Rep. Charles Rangel, the powerful New York Democrat who has been fending off accusations related to his business dealings and fund-raising, among other issues.

The case will go to trial before a separate ethics committee, and Rangel said Thursday he looks forward to the opportunity to explain himself to his constituents after two years of allegations.

Rangel was chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee until he stepped down in March following criticism from the House ethics committee in a separate case.

The announcement Thursday did not specify which alleged violations would be considered during this trial. The panel has focused on several issues, including Rangel's use of four rent-controlled apartments in New York City and his use of official stationery to raise money for a center bearing his name at City College of New York.

The timing of the announcement ensures that a public airing of Rangel's ethical woes will stretch into the fall campaign, and Republicans are certain to make it an issue as they try to capture majority control of the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi had once promised to "drain the swamp" of ethical misdeeds by lawmakers in arguing that Democrats should be in charge.

Responding to the charges, Rangel said in a statement, "I was notified today, two years after I requested an investigation, that the Ethics Committee will refer the allegations reviewed by an investigations subcommittee to a subcommittee that will review the facts. I am pleased that, at long last, sunshine will pierce the cloud of serious allegations that have been raised against me in the media."

Pelosi spokesman Brendan Daly said, "The action today would indicate that the independent, bipartisan ethics committee process is moving forward."

Rangel led the tax-writing Ways and Means panel until he stepped aside last March after the ethics committee criticized him in a separate case -- finding that he should have known corporate money was paying for his trips to two Caribbean conferences.

Officials said that in the current case, the committee and Rangel's attorney tried unsuccessfully to negotiate a settlement. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private discussions. A settlement would have required Rangel to agree that he violated ethics rules.

The investigation of Rangel has focused on:

--His use of official stationery to raise money for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service at City College of New York.

--Whether he had the Ways and Means Committee consider legislation that would benefit donors to the Rangel Center at the same time the congressman solicited donations or pledges.

--Preservation of a tax shelter for an oil drilling company, Nabors Industries, which has a chief executive who donated money to the center while Rangel's committee considered the loophole legislation.

--Use of four rent-controlled apartment units in New York City, when the city's rent stabilization program is supposed to apply to one's primary residence. This raises the question of how all the units could be primary residences. One was a campaign office, raising a separate question of whether the rent break was an improper gift.

--Whether Rangel, as required, publicly reported information on the financing and rental of his ownership interest in a unit within the Punta Cana Yacht Club in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Rangel also had to pay back taxes on the rental income.

--Whether he intentionally failed to report -- when required -- hundreds of thousands of dollars or more in assets. The amended disclosure reports added a credit union IRA, mutual fund accounts and stock.

Rangel had hoped to regain his chairmanship, but the allegations make that virtually impossible this year.

He announced a bid for a 21st term recently, days before his 80th birthday. One of his Sept. 14 primary opponents is Adam Clayton Powell IV, son of the former congressman whom Rangel defeated in 1970.

While the case will generate unfavorable headlines for Rangel, it may have little effect in his congressional district, New York's famed Harlem, where the congressman has been a political leader for decades and is known by older constituents as a Korean War hero.

Some More Illegal Immigration Facts

The Illegal Immigration War

Everyone knows the U.S. is currently concluding a war in Iraq and fighting one in Afghanistan, but few appear to realize we have a bigger war in process with illegal Immigrants.

Representative Steve King of Iowa tells us that Illegal immigrants in the U.S. are conducting crimes of the following types:

12 murders per day of U.S. citizens

13 driving accidents per day caused by uninsured drunk driving illegal’s

8 sex crimes per day involving young children

This amounts to over 9,000 deaths per year. During the past 7 years of the Iraq war, we have had around 4,500 deaths. After 9 years in Afghanistan, we have had around 950 deaths.

In addition, the U.S. receives an enormous portion of its heroin, marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamines – estimated at 80% – from illegal immigrants.

It seems we are fighting the wrong war. Currently we have approximately 190,000 soldiers in 46 other countries and territories, plus 115,000 civilian employees protecting our interests or the interests of our allies abroad.

The Arizona Governor, as well as Senators McCain and Kyle, asked our President for 6,000 troops and completion of a fence to secure America’s borders. The request was answered with less than 1,200 troops.

This is not an Arizona issue; it is a national issue and a major invasion of our country. We want qualified immigrants, but illegal immigrants are abusing our country and our citizens.

Politicians are supposed to serve our needs. Instead, they serve their own interests. I believe illegal immigration is one of our nation’s biggest problems. Would someone explain to me why our government is not addressing this issue?

Almost everyone who understands the issue believes before any kind of immigration reform can be effective we need to control our borders. We need the politicians to get off the dime and take some decisive action. We need “Common Sense Solutions to Washington Nonsense.”

Democrats Pondering Extending The Bush Tax Cuts In Order To Save Their Seats In November

So it appears that Democrats may keep George W. Bush’s tax cuts in a desperate move to keep their seats in November. Let's see how the mainstream media picks this one up and whether the Democrats do it or not, here are the quotes so no one forgets. Awesome research and piece from The Lonely Conservative:

The irony of trying to use President Bush’s tax cuts by Democrats who have maligned them as a way to make the rich richer, is sweet. Three months before the elections, we have some Democrats on record saying the Bush Tax Cuts, which expire at the end of this year, worked and will continue to work.

Some Democrats want to postpone the sunset – obviously until after November 2010 and maybe until after November 2012. Sen Byron Dorgon (D-ND) believes the spending of the rich doesn’t amount to much…they need to be taxed more, and taxed now. In the graphic above, you can see that the rich in either category are taxed at a rate almost double the proportion of the income received.

To set the scene, a chief economist with Moody’s said a drop in spending by the rich has slowed the economy. The highest income earners in the U.S. are credited with 30 percent of spending. They stopped spending, and the “recovery” they’re trying to sell was affected negatively.

Allowing income tax rates to reset to pre-Bush levels for individuals earning more than $200,000 and families earning more than $250,000 could generate close to $700 billion over the next 10 years.

From The Hill:

Obama promised that families earning less than $250,000 would not see their taxes increase.

But vulnerable Democrats in Congress are worried about talk of raising taxes, even on the wealthiest families, when the national economic recovery has slowed.

[Rep. Gerry Connolly D-VA] said Democrats should not allow the 2001 Bush tax cuts to expire for anybody. “People in the upper tax brackets have a huge impact, a disproportionate impact on consumer spending,” he said.
Gerry Connolly is defending the Virginia District 11 House seat in 2010.

Connolly is up for reelection in November. His Republican opponent is Keith Fimian.

Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND), a senior Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, said he could support a short-term extension of the Bush tax cuts for the highest income earners. “My reaction would be don’t cut spending, don’t raise taxes and that would mean on anyone,” he said.

Rep. Bobby Bright, a Democrat facing a tough reelection race in Alabama, said tax increases, even if limited to the wealthiest families, could imperil the recovery. “I don’t care if it’s the wealthiest of the wealthy, you don’t raise their taxes,” he said. “In a recession, you don’t tax, burden and restrict. The economy is like a ship, and if you sink the ship, all the good you might do goes down with it.”

Bright is up for reelection in November. His Republican opponent is Martha Roby.

Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) would like to see the Bush tax cuts expire for families earning $200,000 a year, or even less.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) (paraphrased) wants some tax adjustments to reflect the regional cost of living. Nadler represents Manhattan.

From Tax Cuts Increase Revenuethe way to soak the rich is with low tax rates...”:

If Mr. Obama does succeed in raising tax rates on the rich, we’d also wager that the rich share of tax payments would fall. The last time tax rates were as high as the Senator wants them — the Carter years — the rich paid only 19% of all income taxes, half of the 40% share they pay today. Why? Because they either worked less, earned less, or they found ways to shelter income from taxes so it was never reported to the IRS as income.

It’s not pleasant being a Democrat in 2010, and its downright terrifying to be a Democrat up for reelection in 2010.

City Of Bell, CA Looking To Fire Or Seek Resignation Of Top 3 Officials Because Of Their Salaries

Wow, this is crazy. The city of Bell, CA is looking to fire or seek the resignation of their top 3 officials who make a butt load of cash since the city is hurting (like many other people and municipals across the country). I would ask for a pay cut, but to get rid of the police chief, assistant city manager and the chief admin officer, you have no leadership in the top tiers of a city or town. I can get the financial frustrations, but I think it would be a bad move and it will cost the city more in lawsuits than their yearly salaries combined. That's just my opinion.

Yahoo!/AP: The City Council in this small, blue-collar suburb of Los Angeles intends to ask three administrators whose salaries total more than $1.6 million to resign Thursday or face possible firing.

The officials include Chief Administrative Officer Robert Rizzo, who earns $787,637 a year — nearly twice the pay of President Barack Obama — for overseeing one of the poorest towns in Los Angeles County.

The others are Assistant City Manager Angela Spaccia, who makes $376,288 a year, and Police Chief Randy Adams, whose annual salary of $457,000 is 50 percent more than that of Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck.

Councilman Luis Artiga said the panel planned to request the resignations during a closed-door, afternoon meeting that was called to consider dismissing the officials. A public hearing is scheduled for Monday.

Hell Yeah! Obama Signs Unemployment Extensions

Good news for me and many others because my current claim I am on is almost out and I could use the extension while I continue to search for work.

Yahoo!/AP: Federal checks could begin flowing again as early as next week to millions of jobless people who lost up to seven weeks of unemployment benefits in a congressional standoff.

President Barack Obama on Thursday signed into law a restoration of benefits for people who have been out of work for six months or more. Congress approved the measure earlier in the day. The move ended an interruption that cut off payments averaging about $300 a week to 2 1/2 million people who have been unable to find work in the aftermath of the nation's long and deep recession.

At stake are up to 73 weeks of federally financed benefits for people who have exhausted their 26 weeks of state jobless benefits. About half of the approximately 5 million people in the program have had their benefits cut off since its authorization expired June 2.

They are eligible for lump-sum retroactive payments that are typically delivered directly to their bank accounts or credited to state-issued debit cards. Many states have encouraged beneficiaries to keep updating their paperwork in hopes of speeding payments once the program was restored.
