Obama's Hawaiian Vacation $$ Estimates

The guy has played somewhere around 40 rounds of golf, he has taken at least 10 vacations (by the end of August that I could fact check was 9 vacations) and I would put that figure closer to 13 if you count the Nobel Peace prize visit and the separate vacations that his wife and kids took on their own without him (like the wallet busting Spain trip). During the those same 20 months since Obama began his regime, the average American family has taken less that 21 days of vacation, IF they were/are employed. He's starting to add in more time off in this first term than Bush did in 8 years. Sounds like deficit, same thing.

Read more facts at Wiki Answers

h/t The Lonely Conservative - Via Washington Examiner: President Obama and his family are enjoying a delightful Christmas vacation with friends and family in the chief executive's home state of Hawaii.

Nobody questions a president's right or need to take take away from the White House, but an investigation by Hawaii Reporter has turned up some eye-opening information about the costs and other aspects of the Obama get-away.

Just consider these estimates on part of the costs of the latest Obama Hawaii trip:

* Mrs. Obama’s early flight to Hawaii: $63,000 (White House Dossier)

* Obama’s round trip flight to Hawaii: $1 million (GAO estimates)

* Housing in beachfront homes for Secret Service and Seals in Kailua ($1,200 a day for 14 days): $16,800

* Costs for White House staff staying at Moana Hotel: $134,400 ($400 per day for 24 staff) – excluding meals and other room costs

* Police overtime: $250,000 (2009 costs reported by Honolulu Police Department)

* Ambulance: $10,000 (City Spokesperson)

TOTAL COST: $1,474,200

But that $1.47 million figure leaves out a number of significant costs that simply could not be calculated by Hawaii Reporter:

* Rental of office building in Kailua on canal

* Security upgrades and additional phone lines.

* Costs for car rentals and fuel for White House staff staying at Moana Hotel (Secret Service imports most of the cars used here to escort the president).

* Surveillance before the president arrives.

* Travel costs for Secret Service and White House staff traveling ahead of the President.

White House spokesmen insist Obama's vacation expenses are in line with those of previous presidents, which may well be true, but, since the government refuses to disclose many important details about any presidential journey, nobody can know for sure.

2012 Electoral Vote Map

Via Freedom's Lighthouse. On their site, they said they will continue to update the map as it gets close to the 2012 election. Looks like right now, it's a toss up.

Here is the 2012 Electoral Vote Map, updated to take into account the results of the 2010 Census. We have shaded the states according to our current estimate of how the state is likely to vote in the November 2012 General Election. States that we consider “battleground,” or “tossup” states we have shaded in green.

As you can see, President Obama starts out with a significant advantage – largely due to his virtual lock on California and New York. Those two states give him 84 Electoral Votes, nearly one-third of what he needs to win. At this point we have the Electoral Vote totals as follows:

238 – Likely Obama Votes

191 – Likely GOP Votes

109 – Battleground Votes

The outcome of the Election will likely be fought out in these nine states with a total of 109 Electoral Votes: Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Ohio, New Hampshire, Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida.

If the GOP candidate can win these Battleground States – Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and Ohio, he or she will have 266 votes – just four short of victory. Those four could come from any of the remaining Battleground States.

Katie Couric Thinks We Need A Muslim Version Of The Cosby Show To Help Change People's Opinions About The Religion

I'm going to vote "NO" on this one and honestly, even if there was a show about a Muslim family, it would have regular writers (not ones that would please the Muslim community) and if it were to be taken off the air, it would be slammed and executives would be called "racist" for doing so regardless is the ratings were good or not. It's a catch 22.
"The Cosby Show"...That show was one of a kind and very creative. Much like "Cheers" was. I just don't see it happening. Until the violence in the name of the religion subsides or stops completely, the thought of a show like that will not go over well.

Via Daily Caller: CBS anchor Katie Couric believes a “Muslim version of ‘The Cosby Show’” could open the eyes of Americans and perhaps put an end to all the ”seething hatred many people feel towards all Muslims.”

On her CBSNews.com web show, Couric discussed 2010 in review with a panel, and among Couric’s biggest concerns about 2010 was the controversy surrounding the Park51 Islamic Cultural Center project.

“The bigotry expressed against Muslims in this country has been one of the most disturbing stories
to surface,” Couris said. “Of course, a lot of noise was made about the Islamic Center, mosque, down near the World Trade Center, but I think there wasn’t enough sort of careful analysis and evaluation of where this bigotry toward 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide, and how this seething hatred many people feel for all Muslims, which I think is so misdirected, and so wrong — and so disappointing.”

Fellow panelist and NPR regular Mo Rocca noted that societal changes need to be made when “really smart,” well educated people like him don’t know much about Islam.

“I’m pretty smart, and I can’t tell you … I mean I went to really fancy schools and I cannot tell you five things about Islam. I know almost nothing about a major world religion that sits at the intersection of so many issues that all are undeniably relevant to all of us,” Rocca said.

“Maybe we need a Muslim version of ’The Cosby Show,’” Couric replied. “I know that sounds crazy, I know that sounds crazy. But ‘The Cosby Show’ did so much to change attitudes about African Americans in this country, and I think sometimes people are afraid of what they don’t understand, like you, Mo … If they became part of the popular culture.”

In 2010, Faisal Shahzad, an American-born Muslim, was arrested for attempting to bomb Times Square. Later in 2010, Farooque Ahmed, a Muslim Pakistani American, was arrested for planning mass bombings of Washington Metrorail stations.

The video of Couric’s 2010 review can be found at Mediaite.

400 Year Old Pipes Found In Jamestown

I'm just a big fan of history and I saw this story and thought I'd repost it here. It's awesome how after these hundreds of years after the first permanent English colony in the US, we are still finding little treasures like this one.

Via Yahoo!/AP: Archeologists at Jamestown have unearthed a trove of tobacco pipes personalized for a who's who of early 17th century colonial and British elites, underscoring the importance of tobacco to North America's first permanent English settlement.

The white clay pipes — actually, castoffs likely rejected during manufacturing — were crafted between 1608 and 1610 and bear the names of English politicians, social leaders, explorers, officers of the Virginia Company that financed the settlement and governors of the Virginia colony. Archeologists also found equipment used to make the pipes.

Researchers believe the pipes recovered from a well in James Fort were made to impress investors and the political elite with the financial viability of the settlement. They are likely the rejects that failed to survive the ceramic firing process in a kiln.

The UK Has Possibly Their Coldest Winter On Record In 1000 Years

Again, how's that Global Warming debate going again? Britain has the 2nd coldest winter on record.

Via Daily Star UK: BRITAIN’S winter is the coldest since 1683 and close to being the chilliest in nearly 1,000 years.

Latest figures reveal that the average temperature since December 1 has been a perishing -1C.

That makes it the second coldest since records began in 1659.

The chilliest on record was 1683/84, when the average was -1.17C and the River Thames froze over for two months.

But with January and February to come, experts believe we could suffer the most freezing cold winter in the last 1,000 years.

The Met Office’s Charlie Powell said: “It’s rare to have cold this prolonged, with temperatures falling incredibly low.

“Temperatures will be down again by Sunday, with nights below freezing and day times below average at 3C to 5C. Our outlook forecast to January 26 shows temperatures 2C or 3C below average, frost and ice likely and the highest chance of snow or sleet over the northern half of the UK.”

Although official weather records only go back to 1659, weather experts said the centuries from 1100 to 1500, dubbed the “Medieval warm period”, would not have produced winters as cold as today.

So 2011 could end up being the coldest winter of the last millennium.

Brian Gaze, of The Weather Outlook, said: “It’s very unusual to have a sub-zero month.”

Ezra Klein Of The Washington Post On The Constitution

This one is making the rounds. There is a reason why the Mainstream Media is losing credibility and the people at ultra liberal newspapers like the Washington Post has been losing readership, because of dumb comments like what this guy said and the fact that the left again, doesn't believe in the Constitution with a quote like "...No binding power on anything...". This guy is a reporter and he doesn't even know any history and he proved that by saying it was written over 100 years ago. True it was - if you count some of the amendments to it, but as of today (in 2010), it was written 234 years ago. another reason why I think MSNBC is dumb.

Billy The Kid Denied A Pardon

I personally think this is a good move by the Governor of New Mexico. I know this guy existed and these crimes happened back in the late 19th century, but I agree on the part of "rewriting history" by giving a pardon.
Here is a Wikipedia link on the history of Billy The Kid if you are interested. Otherwise, the story on not granting the pardon is below.

Via Yahoo!/AP: The rehabilitation of Billy the Kid lies dead in the dust.

In one of his last official acts — or non-acts — before leaving office, New Mexico's governor refused to pardon the Old West outlaw Friday for one of the many murders he committed before he was gunned down in 1881.

Gov. Bill Richardson cited ambiguity surrounding the pledge of a pardon 130 years ago as the reason.

"I felt I could not rewrite history," Richardson told The Associated Press, hours after announcing his decision on ABC's "Good Morning America" on his last day in office.

Goldman Sachs Repays Bailout Funds With Federal-Taxpayer Money It Received?

This doesn't make sense. So the Feds just bought up everything, made Goldman Sachs take the money and then within days of receiving the TARP funds, Goldman Sachs returns the money saying they repaid the TARP funds? That's like asking a friend for $10, your friend gives you the $10 then within seconds, you return the $10 and say "I paid you back" and then everything is all good.

I've been reading a few articles before this one that was pretty much saying that most of these banks that took taxpayer money to bail them out, really didn't need it and are hording their stash adding to the debate that there's no capital out there to hire people, etc and that many of these institutions were really NOT "too big to fail" as originally noted and used as part of the basis for the TARP funds being approved.

Also via WSWS - "While most of the Federal Reserve emergency programs were wrapped up by 2010, the government has continued to hide losses incurred from them. For instance, the Federal Reserve is holding over $1 trillion of largely worthless mortgage-backed securities on its balance sheet, insisting that they can eventually be sold at full price".

Yeah, OK.

Via Economic Policy Journal: On June 17, 2009, Goldman finally got its wish, thanks to some timely, undisclosed assistance from the Federal Reserve. Goldman repaid its $10 billion TARP loan. But just six days before this announcement, Goldman sold $11 billion of MBS to the Fed. In other words, Goldman “repaid” the Treasury by secretly selling illiquid assets to the Fed.

One month later, Goldman’s CEO Lloyd Blankfein beamed, “We are grateful for the government efforts and are pleased that [the monies we repaid] can be used by the government to revitalize the economy, a priority in which we all have a common stake.”

As it turns out, the government continued to “revitalize” that small sliver of the economy known as Goldman Sachs. During the three months following Goldman’s re-payment of its $10 billion TARP loan, the Fed purchased $27 billion of MBS from Goldman. In all, the Fed would purchase more than $100 billion of MBS from Goldman during the 12 months that followed Goldman’s TARP re-payment.

The 111th Congress Added More To The National Debt Than The First 100 Congresses Combined

Holy Shnikes! So in 2 years, I went from owing about $33,000 to now $44,000 + as my part of the deficit. Everyone now owes roughly $44,900. And everyone still thinks this is Bush's fault and that his 8 years his administration added more debt. Wrong. I have posted many articles on my blog (and you can find similar articles on other sites and blogs too) that debunk that issue and show that Obama's first 2 years are the worst. We need to get this debt under control.

h/t The Lonely Conservative

CNSNews.com: The federal government has accumulated more new debt--$3.22 trillion ($3,220,103,625,307.29)—during the tenure of the 111th Congress than it did during the first 100 Congresses combined, according to official debt figures published by the U.S. Treasury.

That equals $10,429.64 in new debt for each and every one of the 308,745,538 people counted in the United States by the 2010 Census.

The total national debt of $13,858,529,371,601.09 (or $13.859 trillion), as recorded by the U.S. Treasury at the close of business on Dec. 22, now equals $44,886.57 for every man, woman and child in the United States.

In fact, the 111th Congress not only has set the record as the most debt-accumulating Congress in U.S. history, but also has out-stripped its nearest competitor, the 110th, by an astounding $1.262 trillion in new debt.

During the 110th Congress—which, according to the Clerk of the House, officially convened on Jan. 4, 2007 and adjourned on Jan. 4, 2009--the national debt increased $1.957 trillion. When that Congress adjourned less than two years ago, it claimed the record as the most debt-accumulating Congress in U.S. history. As it turned out, however, its record did not last long.

Speaker Pelosi even made a vow when she took over that there no new spending deficits. Yeah, that didn't last long. Video here:

Obamacare In 16 Words

More truth about Obamacare coming out, this time by a Obama's top medical adviser for this bill, Dr. Donald Berwick. You're not making the case any better...

By Right KliK, h/t Left Coast Rebel

ObamaCare won't save the economy, it won't make health care more affordable and it won't cause us to live longer, healthier lives.

The "primary function" of Obamacare is to take your power to make your own health care decisions and to give that power to the ruling class. Don't take my word for it:

President Obama's Medicare chief, Dr. Donald Berwick, explains, "Traditional medical ethics, based on the doctor-patient dyad must be reformulated...The primary function of regulation in health care, especially as it affects the quality of medical care, is to constrain decentralized individualized decision making.

Translation: "You're not in charge of your health care. Your doctor is not in charge. We are."

Go read this excellent article for more.

New Black Panther Leader Met With Ahmadinejad To ‘Build Black Nation Right Here’

This is disturbing. Seriously, this is what I am talking about when I say that we cannot move forward when it comes to race. The New Black Panthers, Farrakahn...instead of trying to help people and make things better, the still spread hate rhetoric and brainwash people. Not to mention meeting (supposedly) with the Iranian leader about creating a new nation here. Unfortunately in cases like this, talking is not illegal, but to me, sounds like treason if they follow through.

I don't know. Work with people here to make things better, don't talk to an enemy about toppling this great nation. And who's not to say that Iran wouldn't take them out afterwords? Can't trust anyone

Chris Matthews Asks Obama To Release Birth Certificate

I've always thought that if it wasn't such a big deal and he nothing to hide, release the birth certificate and shut people up. But instead he dodges the questions and has spent a lot of money on a team of lawyers to keep it under wraps. I remember last summer driving on I-5 North in California and seeing a billboard in Tehama County that read "Show us the birth certificate" and I cannot remember the name of the group that sponsored the billboard.

Obama Picking A New Economic Adviser

The man needs to do something. Maybe he needs to shake up his cabinet and staff more, get more reliable people instead of hiring his dumb wannabe thug friends (like a Rahm Emanuel) to kick start this country. Hopefully this pick for to economic adviser will do be the start. The economy is still lingering around 10%, lots of people (including myself) are still out of work with no luck and my unemployment still hasn't kicked back up in the mean time. Wake up America!! Let's go!

Yahoo!/AP: Among the first announcements President Barack Obama will make upon returning from his Hawaiian vacation is his choice for top economic adviser, a decision that could signal a new direction for the administration as it struggles to jump start the economy and wrestle down unemployment.

It's far more than a personnel move. The replacement for the outgoing director of the National Economic Council, Lawrence Summers, will have a guiding hand in nearly every economic decision the Obama administration makes, and the president's choice is being closely watched for signs of where he wants to take his economic agenda in the second half of his term.

Will he tap the business world with a figure such as Roger Altman, an investment banker and Clinton administration alumnus who might carry too much baggage from his association with Wall Street? Will he turn to academia instead, calling on a scholar such Yale President Richard Levin? Or will he go with deeply experienced insiders such as deficit hawk Gene Sperling at the Treasury Department or Jason Furman, the council's deputy director?

With the unemployment rate at 9.8 percent, the private sector struggling to maintain steady growth and the public ranking the economy as the top concern, Obama's handling of the issue over the coming months is certain to play a central role in his reelection bid.

PA. Governor Slams NFL. Are We Becoming A Nation Of "Wussies"? I Think So

God I hate Political Correctness. I have to agree with the Governor on this one. Lots of NFL games are played in bad weather including a couple of recent Super Bowls. The "tuck rule" game, the fog bowl, the ice bowl, the recent Vikings game that was moved because of the Metrodome roof collapse, even the game 2(?) weeks ago with the Patriots and Bears was played in horrible cold weather and lots of snow but that game wasn't moved or delayed. Why is this one being moved to tomorrow night?

We are in many ways becoming a nation of "wussies". Seriously. Think about it. I've seen a lot change from the time I was a kid playing sports to the kids of today playing sports. It's a joke. Everyone is equal. Can't have any losers. They all get a trophy now. Can't hurt anyone's feelings. The parents are taking it way to seriously, even with them starting fights during their kids' games. I even thought it was a joke when my cousin (who is a very good coach) was coaching his 3A football team a few years ago and I was watching the game and I learned that if they were up by 30 points, they had to kick off, the whole team had to run off the field and let the other team score so they would have to forfeit the game. Really? Dumbest thing I ever heard. The Mercy rule. Another thing I hate. Little League baseball, up by 10 runs, game is called. As Herm Edwards once said, "You play to win the game".

But also another example of being wussies. I was at BK today and I noticed for the first time that there is now a calorie counter next to the burgers on the value meals. I asked the guy when did that start and he said it was just recent and it's a law now. I just shook my head and said "We are getting way too politically correct now". He told me that "...if you want to watch your calories you shouldn't be at a place like BK". I completely agree.

We need to quit holding everyone's hand cause we "think" it's the right thing to do and it's not. There's no sense of freedom and you don't learn from that. We also need to stop taking care of everyone else on such a massive scale and concentrate on ourselves. I'm not talking isolationism, but close to it.

There's more I could go into, but I'll leave it as this for now. I wonder how long it will take before the political backlash of Gov. Rendell's comments take effect. Cause you know, even in the media, you have to explain yourself and clarify your remarks immediately in this 24 hr news cycle and if you - god forbid - you offend someone (which will probably happen), then the media wants you to apologize and then resign. Hell no, hold your ground. Never apologize for showing feeling as one of my best friends (and P.I.C. - Partners In Crime - DaddyRose) once said, then you apologize for the truth.

Via Shut Down Corner - Yahoo! Sports: Some Philadelphia Eagles fans, including the most important one in the state of Pennsylvania, are incensed that the team's game against the Minnesota Vikings was postponed for a blizzard that didn't pack as much of a wallop as expected on Sunday night.

Governor Ed Rendell joined countless fans upset about the game's move to Tuesday when he told FOX News:

"It's an absolute joke. I was looking forward to this. It would have been a real experience. This is what football is all about. We're becoming a nation of wussies."

Forecasters had called for a blizzard to hit during the game and for up to 18 inches of snow to fall in the City of Brotherly Love. But the center of the storm tracked east of the city and by the time the game would have been over, there was only about seven or eight inches on the ground. In those conditions, the game could have been played.
